The short answer is that it’s a blockchain based MMORPG. But what does that even mean? Well, let’s break it down…
Blockchain is essentially a digital ledger of items, actions, and events. It’s theoretically impossible to hack or modify the record data. Gaming has recently found its way onto blockchain. Gaming companies like Gala Games are using blockchain to track and manage in-game assets such as land deeds, buildings, avatars, weapons, armor, and even crafted items.
These in-game items become what is known as an NFT or Non Fungible Token. When an item becomes an NFT (through a process called minting) it essentially gains a unique trackable serial number. If can then be bought, sold, traded, or given away.
MMORPG is an acronym for Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. Games like World of Warcraft, Elder Scrolls Online, Final Fantasy, Guild Wars, Everquest, and Ultima Online are all examples of successful MMORPG’s.
So in summary Mirandus (currently in development) is set to be a Massive Online Multiplayer Role Playing Game that uses blockchain to manage and track in-game assets that are owned by the players.
However, when compared to successful past MMORPG’s in the game industry, there are other things that set Mirandus apart. The developers of Mirandus refer to the game as an “Adventure Simulator”. It seems that the development goal is to emulate a real world experience.
Much of the game will consist of dangerous wilderness areas, dungeons, water ways, hamlets, villages, towns and a total of 5 large Citadels.
There are three different types of Mirandus NFT’s at the time this article was written. There are the Mirandus land deeds, the Mirandus buildings, and the Mirandus Avatars.
There are a total of 1625 Lands Deeds in the land of Mirandus. The smallest of the deeds of the homestead. The next in size is the Outpost which is a fortified location that can be placed out in parts of the wilderness and sets the scene for adventure with a touch of safety when far from civilization. Next, the land deed sizes range from small farms to massive cities called Citadels. Small Farming and Ranching Hamlets will dot the land. Then the size of the land deed steps up to towns and villages. And finally, there are 5 kingdoms in the land of Mirandus. Each has a King and a Citadel.
There are more than 70 different types of Building NFT’s. These range from small 5×5 stands, all the way up to 20×40 Majestic Shops that can only be found within the walls of a Citadel.
And finally there are 5 known races in the land of Mirandus. Humans, Dwarves, Orcs, Halflings and Elves. Gala Games has released a series of Avatar NFT’s called Exemplars. Each of these Avatars possesses a unique trait or characteristic that will give it a significant advantage during game play.
The entire Gala Games ecosystem is being developed on blockchain technology. The company has game development for a total of 4 video games so far including Mirandus. Player ownership of in game assets is a central mechanic with players and is perhaps the biggest attraction to blockchain gaming.
